Haystack offers completed endpoints featuring Semtech’s LoRa for developers seeking to integrate Haystack and LoRa functionality into their products or product lines. Initially available in the 915 MHz frequency band, HayTag endpoints are ideal for asset tracking and other wide-area, low power mobile IoT use cases.
HayTag endpoints come pre-loaded with Haystack’s OpenTag DASH7 firmware stack and interface with the Haystack Gateway 1.0.

The Longest Range over LoRa
Haystack’s fully bi-directional networking stack allows for state-of-the-art error LDPC correction and Automatic Receipt Requests (ARQ’s) that extend the ground-level range of LoRa by more than 300% when compared to other networking stacks like LoRaWAN. Operating at 915 MHz, HayTag offers unmatched indoor as well as outdoor signal propagation.
Utilizing the unique multicast features of DASH7, HayTag supports real-time geolocation via GNSS/GPS without the conventional rapid power draw of cellular- or satcom-based GPS devices. Transmitting an assisted GPS datagram from the gateway in order to provide the HayTag with orbital information, time to “first fix” is typically 2-3 seconds compared to unassisted GPS which can take up to minutes for the first fix. HayTag uses a u-blox GNSS/GPS receiver.
Multi-Year Battery Life
While HayTag is equipped with a rechargeable 1,000 milliamp hour lithium ion battery, the low power draw and listen-before-talk architecture of DASH7 ensures multi-year battery life under most usage scenarios, even while utilizing GNSS/GPS. For applications requiring extremely high levels of messaging, HayTag also includes a Micro USB port to allow for easy battery recharges.
